The last two weekends have been far too wonderful to be spending time at the computer – hence no updates. Living in England we don’t take lovely summer weather on two consecutive weekends for granted so have to make the most of it! However, that didn’t stop me doing some felting – after all, splashing around with water has a definite pull on a hot day 🙂 (and then you get to dry your new creation in the sunshine too!).
It is pretty obvious that I love strong, bright colours, but for no obvious reason I have never been particularly keen on red. So I found it quite surprising when I had this sudden urge to try and produce a felt vessel in a bright red base colour. I had this inner image of a red version of my square vessels with a black and white pattern… so I had a go:
alternating with black layers
When I cover the layer of bright colour entirely with a black layer it does seem a bit of a waste of all this brightness, but knowing that it will turn into this effect  keeps me going.
The pattern comes last, on top of the final layer.
And now the water splashing starts… and the pattern starts to integrate into the red backgroundÂ
After drying the flat piece of felt on the washing line in the sun (!) I can’t wait to start cutting into it (it’s the anticipation of the lovely stripes emerging from the cut). But to be honest I don’t usually manage to wait until the felt is dry – the first cut usually happens as soon as the piece is not dripping wet anymore 🙂
After cutting and stitching this new vessel is the result:Â
Not a shade of purple in sight… and at first I wasn’s sure about it. But after having it around me and letting it become part of my collection it started to grow on me. I think it is OK after all 🙂
